Who Curated This Archive

Who we are, how we source our content, and where our independence and limitations lie.

AncientFortune is an independent cultural history archive. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated by any club, venue or organisation mentioned on this site.

Our Purpose

AncientFortune was built as a small virtual museum on one specific slice of Indian social history: the gymkhana clubs, racecourses, ballrooms and billiard rooms of the colonial era, and the way the Public Gambling Act of 1867 intersected with that world. We are not a travel guide, a directory, or a gambling service of any kind. Our aim is public understanding of a historical period, presented with a clear separation between documented fact, general historical tradition, and matters we flag for the reader to verify independently.

How We Source Content

Content on this site is drawn from general, widely available secondary historical sources about colonial club, racing and leisure culture. Where a specific date, figure, or attribution is not something we can confirm to a high standard from a single general overview, we mark it explicitly as needing verification against the historical record. We deliberately avoid presenting invented personal names as historical fact, and we do not reproduce photographs of people or interiors from this period; instead we use text and simple architectural ornament.

We welcome corrections. If you are a historian, archivist or researcher and believe any claim on this site is inaccurate or needs a more precise citation, we encourage independent verification through primary sources, club archives, and academic historical literature, since this site is intended as an accessible introduction rather than a primary research resource.

Independence and Affiliation

AncientFortune operates independently of any club, racecourse, association or organisation named or discussed on this site, whether historical or currently operating. Mentioning a historical institution, such as an early turf club, is a matter of historical record and does not imply any relationship, sponsorship, or endorsement in either direction.

This site does not offer, promote, or link to any gambling operator or real-money gaming platform. It is a work of cultural and historical presentation only.

Monetisation Disclosure

AncientFortune may, on a limited basis, include affiliate links to legitimate travel-related services (such as accommodation or tourism information providers) relevant to visiting heritage sites discussed on this archive. Any such links are marked and carry rel="sponsored nofollow noopener" attributes. We do not carry, and will not carry, links to gambling operators or real-money gaming platforms of any kind.

Contact

For editorial queries, corrections, or takedown requests, please reach out through the contact details listed in this site's footer or public registration information where provided. We aim to review and respond to substantiated corrections in a timely manner.
